Copan Legal, a brief of History

A legal and lobbying firm based in Honduras with offices in Tegucigalpa and the Bay Island and contact representation in Japan and Mexico. We are fully bilingual and we provide a wide range of legal services catering to foreign residents, tourists, visitors and investors in Honduras and the Central American region. This is a legal firm founded in 1946 by Salvador Villela Vidal, a prestigious Honduran attorney with post graduate degrees in Labor Law from the National University of Argentina. Attorney Villela Vidal was one of the Honduras most respected and renowned attorneys obtaining before his death at 96, the “Illustrious Lawyer of the New Century” award from the Honduran Lawyers Bar Association for 50 consecutive years of law practice and social awareness. The current director, Alex Villela Franco is the son of the founder. Attorney and lobbyist Alex Villela Franco and his sister, her Excellency Ambassador Marlene Villela-Talbott established the Villela & Villela offices in Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras. In the year 2000, the firm launched its Corporate Services – Lobby Bureau and Real Estate Agency through www.roatanlegal.com In 2014, we expanded the services to include Corporate Training services in a wide range of specialized fields.


Brief Political and Professional Summary of the Partners

The firms director, Attorney Alex Villela Franco comes from a family of politicians and diplomats with centuries of political tradition whose ancestors emigrated from the Vasc Country in Spain. The family members include a history of political leaders, congressmen, and founders of the National Political Party. Attorney Alex Villela Franco is a leader in the Honduran conservative National Party, currently in power. His various political endeavors include Legal and Political Advisor for the presidential campaigns of former Presidents Ricardo Maduro and Porfirio Lobo Sosa. He is currently a political and legal advisor to the political commission of the National Party. He has been an active member of the International Political Observers Group of the Organization of American States in Washington D.C. and was OAS Mission Chief of the International Political Observers Committee in the significant 2000 elections in Venezuela. Attorney Villela was also invited by the Vice President of Taiwan, to represent the National Party of Honduras at the international political event “Democracy Asia Pacific”.

The firm’s President, her Excellency Ambassador Marlene Villela Talbott is a prestigious diplomat that has represented Honduras as Ambassador to Taiwan, Ambassador to the Organization of American States headquartered in Washington DC, was former Counselor Ministry to the Honduran Embassy to the White House in Washington DC, and is currently Ambassador to Japan, the Philippines and Thailand.

The third partner and general manager, Lisa Villela Calderon, brings to the firm her knowledge and 20-year experience in environmental law, project management, and natural resource management. She has degrees in Biology, Environmental Control, Project Management, and Natural Resource Management from universities in Honduras, Belgium, Brazil and the United States.
